Philippine Navy Reservists Test Live Naval Guns

Headquarters, Naval Forces Central, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, December 2, 2021 – A total of fifteen (15) Navy Reservists from Naval Reserve Center Eastern Visayas took part in the Live Naval Gun Test Firing as part of their Shipboard Familiarization Training during the conduct of 4th Quarter Naval Gun Test Firing of Patrol Craft BRP Alfredo Peckson (PC372) at vicinity 3.1 NM SE off Pangumbacan Point, Camotes Island, Cebu.

Prior said activity, the reservists were given a briefing on the unit’s mission, capabilities and organizational structure. They were also toured in different area aboardship to acquaint them with the functions and equipment under the Operations, Damage Control and Engineering, Deck and Gunnery, and Mess and Supply Department. Several shipboard drills were also conducted to expose the reservists to the different administrative, emergency and operational evolutions observed aboardship on certain conditions.

Shipboard Familiarization Training is part of the preparatory program of the NRC-EV in honing the skills of naval reservists when performing sea duty before being incorporated to the ready reserve units of Philippine Navy. Being the force multiplier, the opportunity to experience navigating the ship and operate shipboard equipment will provide our reservists the necessary skills and knowledge during their integration to the regular force. This provides them the needed skills during calamities, disasters, and war. Opportunely, it was jibed during the scheduled test firing activity to maintain the serviceability of naval guns and sustain war-ready naval assets and personnel.
