Subic, Philippines – As the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) intensifies border security nationwide, the Port of Subic through the efforts of its Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) on June 24, 2021 seized smuggled cigarettes estimated to have a value of Php 92 Million.
Through the issuance of a Pre-lodgment Control Order (PLCO), the two shipments alledgedly consigned to a certain Goldlink enterprises which originated from China was subjected to x-ray and100% examination.
The examination which was witnessed by members of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), X-ray Inspection Project, Formal Entry Division (FED), Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc. (CCBI), Representatives of Japan Tobacco Inc (JTI) and Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. (PMFTC).
The revealed the presence of of 2050 master cases of cigarettes bearing the brands Fortune and Mighty were discovered and were believed to be smuggled since the same contained fake tax seals. A warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) was issued by the District Collector’s Office against the shipments.
Further investigation is being conducted for the possible filing of charges for violation of Section 1113 in relation to Section 1400 of RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) , pertinent Internal Revenue Laws and circulars of the National Tobacco Authority (NTA).
As nation continues to aim for a healthy post pandemic economy, the Port of Subic remains committed in its mandate to protect the country’s borders under the guidance of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero.
